Due to low attendance, the blacksmith workshops are not being held this year.

If enough people express an interest they may be restarted.  If you would like to learn blacksmithing please contact the museum at 530-336-5110 or by email at fchs@fortcrook.com.

Blacksmith Workshop 4

The blacksmith workshop is open to everyone at any skill level.  People new to blacksmithing can get help starting out in the art with projects to build their skills.  People already with experience and tools are encouraged to join in too, there is always something new to learn.  How-to-advice is available on request if desired.

The Museum has five coal-fired forges for people interested in traditional methods.  There are also three propane-fired forges available for those more interested in a more modern age.  The Museum has multiple anvils and a room full of donated specialty tools.

The workshop is held on the 1st and 3rd Sunday from November through April from 12 Noon to 4 PM.  Again, the workshop is open to anyone and everyone older than 14.  Children should be accompanied by an adult who is prepared to stay (it’s not a daycare!).  There is a $10 donation to the Museum per session to cover the cost of the coal and propane.
